Over twice as many people are claiming regular benefits compared with last year. Beginning March 2nd, 2009, an additional $25 was added to every UI check from stimulus revenues. Over $55 million in checks were paid during the week ending June 6, 2009 of this almost $4 million was from stimulus funds.
In May 2009 the rate was 46%; in May 2008 it was 32%. Of those exhausting regular benefits most are eligible for up to 33 weeks of EUC benefits, and up to 20 weeks of Extended Benefits. Only one person has exhausted all of the available benefits. Over 7,800 people were claiming Extended Benefits the week ending June 6, 2009.
