Oregon Employment Department Releases Report
Listing 19,325 Job Vacancies in the Portland Area
 
The Oregon Employment Department today released a report estimating that there were 19,325 job vacancies in the Portland area – defined as Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas counties – in April of this year.
 
Other findings from the report included:
 
  • Almost one-third of job vacancies had been unfilled for two months or longer.
 
  • The 25 occupations with the most vacancies represented only 37 percent of all area job vacancies, suggesting that a wide range of occupations beyond just those 25 are going unfilled.
 
  • The health care and manufacturing industries had the most job vacancies. Combined, these two industries represented one-third of all Portland area vacancies.
 
  • Seventy percent of all health care industry vacancies require education beyond high school and 62 percent require a license or certificate. These higher-than-typical educational requirements add to the difficulty in filling this industry’s vacancies.
 
  • Of the vacancies with wage information, one-in-four paid a wage of at least $20 an hour, while one-in-four paid less than $10 an hour.
