Extended Benefits Frequently Asked Questions
Are there any Extended Benefits available after I draw all of my regular benefits?
Currently, Emergency Unemployment Compensation (EUC) allows up to 20 additional weeks of benefits for eligible individuals.  Oregon will enter an Extended Benefits (EB) period on December 7, 2008.  EB adds up to another 13 weeks of additional benefits.  You may be eligible for EB if you have no regular and EUC benefits left to draw.

How will I know if I’m eligible for EB?
Beginning December 8, 2008, we will mail notices to all potentially eligible people.  Be sure to keep your mailing address current on your claim records.  We will also post information on www.workinginoregon.org.

Can I call now to find out if I may be eligible when EB begins?
No, our UI Centers cannot determine your eligibility for Extended Benefits until after December 7, 2008.  Among other qualifying requirements, you must exhaust your current regular and EUC benefits (have a zero balance on both).

Can I apply for EB online?
You must apply for EB by telephone.  A claimstaker will give you important information about EB requirements when you apply.

Can I apply for EB now?
We cannot file EB for anyone until December 8, 2008 at the earliest.  If you are eligible you can file after that time.  Remember, due to the high unemployment rate, the UI Centers are very busy.  For the shortest wait times, call the UI Centers on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday mornings.
