| WorkSource Oregon Employment Department Program wins National Award |

WorkSource Oregon Employment Department’s job matching system, iMatchSkills, was named winner of the 2005 Intergovernmental Innovation Award for state and local agencies.
The award is given annually by the American Council of Technology, a non-profit educational organization based in Fairfax, Virginia. The goal of the ACT is to assist government in acquiring and using information technology resources effectively and efficiently.
"iMatchSkills is the result of many years of work by a number of staff. Our goal was to bring job seekers and employers together by producing the best job matching tool available. This award goes a long way to validate that effort," said Deborah Lincoln, director of WorkSource Oregon Employment Department.
iMatchSkills is a state-of-the-art computer program that matches job seekers to occupations based on the skills they have acquired, as opposed to the usual resume type job search. For the job seeker, iMatchSkills opens avenues for possible careers they may not have considered. For the employer, the program ensures candidates referred to job openings have the skills needed to do the job.
There are currently nearly 200,000 active accounts on the system, which each day lists thousands of job openings.
A committee of government and industry IT professionals whittled a field of more than sixty applications to eight finalists for the award. The committee considered six criteria in making their selection and iMatchSkills was found to excel in each of the following areas: intergovernmental and collaborative; innovative and effective use of technology; business transformation; available and transferable; impact and results; and technology leadership.
The award was presented to WorkSource Oregon Employment Department staff an awards luncheon Tuesday, May 24th at the Hyatt at Penn’s Landing in Philadelphia as part of the 25th Annual Management of Change Conference.
