SALEM, Ore. — The public is invited to comment on proposed electric vehicle (EV) charging station sites in nearly two dozen communities around Oregon. These sites have been identified as having the most potential to host the EV charging stations the U.S. Department of Transportation is funding through the Oregon Department of Transportation. A brief survey to rank the sites and provide comments is available at http://www.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/OIPP/EV_TigerSiteRankings.shtml (click on “EV Charging Stations Host Site Rankings feedback form”). Comments are accepted until Nov. 1st.

The communities involved include Astoria, Banks, Cannon Beach, Cascade Locks, Clatskanie, Detroit, Florence, Government Camp, Grand Ronde, Hood River, Lincoln City, McMinnville, Monmouth, Newberg, Newport, Sisters, St. Helens, Tillamook, Veneta, Welches and Yachats. Final approved sites would potentially host an EV fast-charging station and a Level II EV charging station, each capable of providing electricity to one car at a time, for a total of two parking spaces occupied and reserved for EV parking only.

Target sites will be commercial enterprises that offer other activities for drivers while they wait for their vehicle to charge. These include truck stops, gas stations, convenience stores and restaurants. Although commercial sites will be the preferred host sites, public sites will be considered if they meet the other specifications and are surrounded by commercial entities that can provide services to the EV driver.
