All customers can change their address and report the sale of a vehicle using DMV's online services. Most customers (if stated on the renewal notice) can renew their vehicle registrations online. Save yourself a trip and go online instead!

Several new laws aimed at making Oregon roads safer went into effect on January 1, 2012. Most expand or enhance existing laws, including Oregon's ban on cell phone use while driving, use of child safety seats and motorcycle training requirements.

Starting January 30, 2012, Oregon DMV will require commercial truck and bus drivers to submit a photocopy of their medical certificate to continue holding a commercial driver license. The new requirement is part of federal safety regulations aimed at making sure CDL holders are medically fit to operate commercial vehicles.

The Lloyd Center DMV office in Portland permanently closed it's doors at 5 PM on Friday, January 13, 2012. Area residents will continue to have access to several full-service DMV offices within a few miles of the closed office.

All applicants for driver licenses, instruction permits and ID cards (including renewals and replacements) must present proof of their full legal name and U.S. citizenship or lawful presence in the United States. It can take weeks to obtain some of the documents you'll need to meet the new laws, so don't wait until your license or ID card expires.
