ODOT STATEWIDE FREIGHT PLANNING
Mobility
A recent forecast predicts that the volume of freight moved in Oregon will nearly double by 2035. This increase will be the result of growth in global trade. Trucking currently handles the majority of freight moved. Some freight is moved by other modes of transportation. The other modes currently used to ship freight include rail, watercraft, aircraft, and pipelines. Some shippers may find opportunities for expansion and shifts to other modes of transportation. Maximizing freight mobility and optimizing the use of all modes will be critical to continuing economic prosperity in Oregon, the Pacific Northwest and the nation.
